Raw Water Intake

Starting in June 2023 RWD#6 initiated a project to redesign and restructure the river Raw Water Intake operation that was originally installed in the early 1980's.  This $1,052,000 construction project eliminated the old above ground tower that had housed the intake pumps and electrical components, in favor of a new wet well with three new submersible pumps.  The electrical functions were updated and moved to a new building addition.

In addition to the river water intake project the District has installed three power backup diesel generators --- one for the river pumps, a second to run the plant operations, and a third at the Fannie's tower in Rantoul.

RWD #6 River Bank Stabilization Project Underway

RWD #6 started work in July on a river bank stabilization project to protect our water intake from future erosion and possible collapse.  We solicited bids from many area heavy construction contractors, and the $297,000 project was awarded to Rubick Construction Company of Williamsburg.  Weather permitting, the project should be completed by early September.
